A greener city: Natural Park, Anella Verda, rivers in renaturation project, green urban spaces…

  • For five decades, Terrassa has been progressively adding value to the extraordinary natural heritage represented by the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt and the Serra de l’Obac, with an area of almost 13,700 hectares. The Park, managed by the Diputació de Barcelona, is located in 12 municipalities: Castellar del Vallès, Granera, Matadepera, Monistrol de Calders, Mura, el Pont de Vilomara i Rocafort, Rellinars, Sant Llorenç Savall, Sant Vicenç de Castellet, Talamanca, Terrassa and Vacarisses.
  • A significant expansion of the Natural Park, included in SDGs 3, 13 and 15, is currently under study.
  • The protection of l’Anella Verda de Terrassa has contributed decisively to enhance, in recent years, the value of the area between the urban center and the natural areas that surround it, up to the limits of the municipality. L’Anella Verda is a protected area with a total of 4,538 hectares located around the city, representing 65% of the total territory.
  • In the course of the year 2022, and within the framework of the projects presented to the Next Generation European funds, the renaturation and transformation of the rivers of Terrassa (Les Arenes and Palau) in their urban sections has been incorporated into the design of the future city model. This project, in addition to its strategic value to reinforce the security of the rivers and to communicate the neighborhoods that are located on both sides, also implies gaining a new natural space of large dimensions within the city and betting on the increase of urban green. Currently, the city has 2 million m2 of green space.
  • Terrassa has one of the largest urban parks in Catalonia, Vallparadís, with almost 400,000 m2 of surface area, which is the most outstanding of the Terrassa urban park system, both in terms of extension and ease of access from many neighborhoods. The construction of a new large green space, the Parc de la República, with 35,000 m2, is being planned in the northern part of the city.
