Preventing and reducing climate change impacts and improving resilience
Reduce emissions by 55% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050
- The Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan is the tool for the city to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, that is, to have a net-zero emissions balance. It sets an intermediate target of reducing emissions by more than 55% by 2030, in line with the targets set out in the European Union’s Green Deal. The Plan covers many areas of environmental policy, such as energy, mobility, building, waste, water, as well as measures to adapt to the climate changes we are already experiencing.
Energy transition: the end of fossil fuels and a new energy model
- The Program for Energy Transition in Terrassa should serve to facilitate the replacement of fossil and nuclear fuels with renewable energy sources, and at the same time to promote a new energy model, democratic, decentralized, participatory, socially just, empowering and putting citizens at the center of the system.
- Facilitate the installation of photovoltaic modules for electricity production on the roofs of residential, service and industrial buildings, and expand the network of photovoltaic installations in municipal buildings.
- Promote the energy rehabilitation of the city’s buildings to reduce their energy consumption, incorporate renewable energy production and improve their comfort, while generating opportunities for local job creation.
Energy communities: citizen and business participation in the energy transition
- Promote, participate and lead the constitution of energy communities open to citizens and local companies, with the objective of facilitating the participation of all in the energy transition, producing and consuming our own renewable energy, sharing it, improving efficiency and savings, aggregating the requested sample and developing other energy services.
Urban resilience: prevention to ensure security
- Incorporate urban resilience as a structural element for the management of public services, in order to prevent major incidents and emergency situations, minimize them and recover from their effects. The objective is to establish an organizational system with the capacity to support decision-making in the event of emergencies, guaranteeing as much as possible the operation of urban services, constant communication and coordination.
- Develop an Urban Resilience Master Plan.
