City and demographics

Avoid urban sprawl and revitalize the existing city.

Sustainable and transformative urban planning

  • Along these lines, marked by the desire to avoid urban sprawl and revitalize the existing city, are projects such as “District Zero” (in the area of the former Albinyana industrial steam plant), the transformation of the area of the former Sala y Badrinas factory and the former Vapor Cortés, as well as the conversion of the former AEG factory into a residential area and the transformation of the 20th century neighborhood, making industrial (technological and clean), residential and tertiary uses compatible, through a specific modification of the POUM.
  • All these projects, which will contribute to revitalizing the existing city, are committed to introducing new green areas, ample pedestrian spaces, reducing traffic, applying sustainable construction criteria and generating new areas with a mix of different uses (residential, cultural, productive, commercial, etc.).

Urban design and landscape: a path to urban quality and sustainability

  • A line of action focused on improving the urban landscape, which will be implemented, among other instruments, through a future Urban Landscape Ordinance, a new Licensing Ordinance and the expansion of the Cultural Heritage Inventory, a prior step to a future Special Urban Heritage Protection Plan and Catalog of architectural, archaeological and environmental assets.
